Listen to an interview with John and Linda!
A Brief History
The Gilbert Players was formed in 2003 when Linda and John Tomasi, two very passionate theater lovers, leased an old school building in Gilbertville, Mass. They recruited talent from area towns which developed into a strong and entertaining core of actors and singers. The first production opened as an original cabaret and love story for a Valentine week-end. The response was overwhelming, and a full house for all performances was an unexpected surprise.
Because the level of talent and the size of the audience kept growing, more and more shows were presented. Simple cabarets became full musical productions which left the audience standing for ovations and scouring the community calendars for future shows. Sporting rave reviews from newspapers and dedicated followers, Gilbert Players has a reputation for producing top-notch shows brimming with talent, unmatched sets, and spectacular costumes.
We are always looking for directors, musicians, choreographers, stage managers, costumers, prop and set designers. We welcome all new energy and talent.
John and Linda Tomasi met on stage years ago while performing together on Martha’s Vineyard. Both of their theatrical careers started in high school and continued through college. After years on the Vineyard, they moved onto New York City and continued to be active on stage and off.
In 1997 they moved back to Linda’s home town of Hardwick and immediatly became involved in acting and directing at the Barre Players, Stageloft in Sturbridge, Quabbin pro Musica, Hubbardston Community Theater, Ware after school program, and the Valley View School. John, Linda and the Gilbert Players also give hundreds of hours each year donating time and talent to organizations and groups as fund raisers.
Costumes and Props
Over the years, thousands of costumes, prop, and sets have become available for productions. These items range from simple colonial clothing, to animals in Honk, to war uniforms; from Victorian to beastly, cowboy to gangsters; to the Clock, Candelabra, Tea Pot and Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast. We are pleased to rent these out to other theater productions as well as design sets, scenery painting and full costuming and props.
